The Ottawa County Improvement Corporation (OCIC) held its second quarter Trustee Meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at the Flourish Flat in Genoa, with refreshments provided by Rayz Café. OCIC staff provided updates on several ongoing initiatives, including:
Construction of the Ottawa County Workforce Hub remains on schedule, with completion anticipated by August 1. OCIC also celebrated the graduation of 30 students from the Skilled Trades Academy and Healthcare Careers Academy. Collectively, students earned 284 industry-recognized credentials and completed over 3,000 hours of workforce learning.
The 30th anniversary of Experience Ottawa County will be held at The Orchard on Catawba Island. Sponsorship opportunities are available and registration is now open at ocic.org/eoc.
Larry Fletcher of Shores & Islands Ohio provided an overview of the organization’s mission and its impact across the region. He highlighted 2024 accomplishments, including the expansion of the Destination Development Program, increased visitation, and support for community-based tourism projects. Looking ahead to 2025, he shared details about the Live & Work social media campaign—developed in partnership with OCIC and the Greater Sandusky Partnership—to promote the region as an exceptional place to live and work. Shores & Islands Ohio remains a valuable partner in elevating the region’s visibility, strengthening the tourism economy, and enhancing overall quality of life.
Dave Barth presented on the America 250 celebration—commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The Ottawa County America 250 Committee is actively planning events for next year and is currently seeking sponsors to support programming and celebrations. These events will offer unique ways to honor local history and engage the community in this national milestone.
